Recently, according to the US Chinese website on the 30th, the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will set up 300 3D scanners at airports across the United States to improve safety and significantly improve the passenger experience.
TSA said, 'Our goal is to ensure people's safety and provide a better passenger experience.'
'These advanced 3D scanners will enable our screeners to detect explosives and other threats to commercial aviation with unprecedented precision,' TSA said in a statement. “Because Congress is funding this technology, the country’s transportation system is now safer.”
Earlier this month, TSA officials said they would screen about 107 million passengers and crew during the spring break from March 14 to April 28, an increase of more than 3% over the same period last year.
According to reports, TSA announced a $98.6 million contract with Smiths Detection of Maryland for 300 computed tomography (CT) systems and related ancillary equipment and services.
TSA currently uses CT technology to screen checked baggage and will begin piloting at two airport security checkpoints in 2017. The TSA plans to officially implement this measure this summer and complete the deployment in 2020.
The TSA says the benefit for travelers is that they don't have to separate their electronic devices from the carry-on bags. Passengers may not even have to worry about how they package liquids, gels and aerosols.
